You're Lovely

I had a plan. I was going to compare and contrast fashion documentaries for you, specifically Marc Jacobs vs. Valentino. I was going to write about Marc's  need to twirl about his studio on a spinning stool. I was going to write about Valentino's tradition and his (sometimes justified) tantrums. Glory, humor, on and on. Then I watched The September Issue, which absolutely solidified my obsession with this man :

When I first saw him in Valentino: The Last Emperor I knew that there could be no other person on earth that could better exemplify the name Hamish. Featuring him here briefly was a given to me.

When he cropped up again in The September Issue it became clear; nothing else in the fashion world should matter to me.

Adorable. And yet, Hamish is somewhat of a mystery. He is listed as European Editor at Large for Vogue, but these days that could mean just about anything. I want to know what this man does. What happens in his days. What his surely glorious home looks like. General web searches tell gave me little tidbits like he escorted celebrity whoever to whatever, was a consultant to various exhibits and once accidentally grew a mustache. I also learned that he must have somehow displeased Anna. He was sent on one of those extreme survival retreats where his guide tricked him into eating what Hamish assumed to be bear poop. Bear poop. Bear poop. It turned out to be granola, but it certainly added more confusion as to how his current lifestyle came to fruition.

Also, there is this  .

And yet, I'm scared to know anything else about my new love, Hamish. I don't want this glorious bubble to burst. I want to live in a world where he seemingly does everything and nothing. Where he could show up at any event at any moment, make it better and, I don't know, fly away on a unicorn hand bejeweled by Lady GaGa. Just a thought.

Hamish, if you ever find this post  . . . call me.

Johanna Ost

When I just need to see something pretty I often find myself spending way too much time on 18th Century Blog. It combines fashion, history and art in a way that is so wonderfully organized, which is helpful when I know what I'm browsing for.  18th Century Blog is run by Johanna Ost :

She is serious about 18th century fashion. However, I only recently discovered she is an illustrator and painter! Her art site features her whole portfolio which ranges in subject from custom tattoos, cats, personal portraits to pure fantasy. Prints are available of most of her work for only nine dollars each! While some of her work is not "my cup of tea",  I'm particularly interested in her beautiful choice of colors and the unique, vintage inspired way she paints women.

These four are my favorites, especially the first and last ones, but I started a folder for this post with at least 20 paintings in it! That is going to be a problem when I actually sit down to order some prints.

Would Push Old Ladies Over For This

I never really had the urge to go out and get a netbook but Sonel by Lovely&Co makes me want to, well, see title.

At roughly 10''x5'' it is the perfect size to pop in your bag and go anywhere! Think about what a great space saver this would be when you travel since it already is in its own case!

While you watch movies the case can cover the keyboard so you aren't distracted from what is on the screen. Then, when you are ready to do some work, the case flips out to reveal a full keyboard and trackpad.

I'm a serious Mac loyalist, but this is so ridiculously well designed I don't even feel guilty for lusting after one! Sonel doesn't exist yet, but when it does make sure your grandmothers are out of my path.

You're Standing On My Neck

La la la la la.

It's coming! MTV is finally releasing the complete Daria series on DVD ( yes, it includes the movies). May 11th is the release date, but you can pre-order  the set on Amazon right now for  $46.99. So excited.

I'm actually excited enough to expose you to my fledgling Polyvore skills again (... eeexcept, I can't get it to embed so you get a screen shot for now)!
